Less than a quarter of Adults in the U.S. exercise enough

According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, only 18 percent of adults (that’s 18 years of age and over) meet the Physical Activity Guidelines for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening physical activity.  18 percent?  I was shocked to hear this.  I looked around for the guidelines and I found that the guidelines stipulatethat an adult between the ages of 18 and 64 should participate in some muscle strengthening activity at least twice a week and spend around 2 hours a week with a mix of moderate and vigorous aerobic activity.

About 3 hours a week.  That’s it.  I think that sounds reasonable.  What are we doing to keep our bodies fit in that 3 hours?  If you aren’t spending that 3 hours on exercise, why not?  What are we doing to ensure that our kids can do better than 18% when they are adults?
