We welcomed Anders Bradshaw Zerwas to the family (and the world) yesterday. He’s healthy, and happy, and heavy (9lbs, 2oz). We are as ecstatic as these pictures make us seem (a little tired, but still ecstatic). He came during my week off from work. Anders, could you have more perfect timing? I think we’re goingContinue reading “And the family gets a bit bigger”

A New Season of Life
For the past 7 years I’ve been working for a company that builds websites for churches and small businesses. My role with the company included design, development, marketing, customer support and training, web, social media, and SEO consulting, product development, and a handful of other things. There were many rewarding aspects of the work butContinue reading “A New Season of Life”
Why and What we Eat
A sermon at Emmaus about love, life, community and food. Paul say to discern, notice, and pay attention to the Body of Christ. He goes on to say that you (all of you) are the Body of Christ… This was the first time that I have ever taped anything underneath chairs during a sermon. IContinue reading “Why and What we Eat”
Group Study Guides
The final exam in Cardio/Health will take place on Wednesday and Thursday and will cover the first 5 units of the term. There’s a lot for students to review in order to be well prepared for the test. In class yesterday, I followed Mrs. Bailey’s lead and split the students into 6 groups. Each groupContinue reading “Group Study Guides”
Dead Last for a Reason
Did you see this story about Meghan Vogel? She’s the high school track star that won the 1600 at the state meet then came in dead last in the 3200. It was the second race that was more inspiring and formative. I’m going to show this video in class this week to stress the factContinue reading “Dead Last for a Reason”
5k Reflection
The Del Oro Cardio/Health 5K came and went and I think it was a huge success. Students legitimately seemed to be enjoying running. The crazy fan groups did an amazing job supporting the runners. Several students posted some very fast times. The whole 2 day (8 heat) event was marked by an atmosphere of funContinue reading “5k Reflection”
Spinning Tricycles
I didn’t know these things existed until one of my students brought it to his crazy fan group in order to cheer his classmates on in the Del Oro 5K. If anyone is looking for Christmas present ideas (for my kids, of course)…
Day 1 of the 5K
Day One of the Del Oro Cardio/Health 5K was a huge success. The runners and the encouragers seemed to have a lot of fun. Almost everyone beat their goal times. There were two injuries (a definite downside) but I think that everyone will survive to run again. Here were a few of my favorite momentsContinue reading “Day 1 of the 5K”
Set the World On Fire
My wonderful sister-in-law, Evin, gave my oldest son a card for his first Birthday. It was a simple piece of white card-stock – about 5 inches across. On it she wrote these words “Go forth and set the world on fire.” It’s apparently a quote from St. Ignatius of Loyola. That’s it. It’s so simple.Continue reading “Set the World On Fire”
Want to See the Sharp Stick?
I went back to the scene of the incident with the sharp stick to get a better sense of size, shape, and location of the stick that poked me in the eye. I was going to take a few pictures before trimming it back. Instead of just a picture or two, I ended up takingContinue reading “Want to See the Sharp Stick?”
